OMEGA 60

The OMEGA laser has been operational since 1995 and is one of LLE's primary research tools. It stands 10 meters tall and is approximately 100 meters in length. OMEGA's 60 laser beams focus up to 40,000 joules of energy onto a target that measures less than 1 millimeter in diameter in approximately one billionth of a second.

OMEGA EP

The OMEGA EP Laser System is now complete. The new laser is capable of coupling short-pulse beams to the OMEGA target chamber as well as the stand-alone experimental chamber. It was completed in April 2008 on schedule and on budget ($89M).
